Q1. How can I visit the nearby hot springs? Does Lisong Hot Spring require a guide?

1. Lisong Hot Spring|栗松溫泉

Can I visit on my own?
Yes. You may visit independently, but an Entry Mountain Permit is required in advance.
Best Season to Visit
  • The best time to visit is November to April, when rainfall is lower and the river level is reduced. During this season, more of the hot spring pools are exposed, making it easier to enjoy the natural hot spring.
  • Hiking Time:Approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes round trip.
  • Getting There:The trailhead is located at approximately Km 168.5 on Provincial Highway 20 (Southern Cross-Island Highway). You may also navigate to Motian Fude Temple (Km 169), where another entrance is located nearby.About 2 hours by car from downtown Taitung.
  • Parking Information:The access road is narrow and suitable for only one vehicle at a time. Road conditions may also be rough. Visitors are recommended to park along Provincial Highway 20 and walk to the trailhead.
  • A commonly used parking area is Caiyuan Parking Area【菜園停車場】, accessible by taking Provincial Highway 9 to Chishang, then turning onto Highway 20 and entering the small road beside the convenience store near Km 169.5.

Entry Mountain Permit (Required)|入山證申請
Although you may visit without a guide, Lisong Hot Spring is located within a restricted mountain area, and an Entry Mountain Permit is required.
The group leader must submit the application at least 7 days before departure (no later than 3 days before departure).


Application Steps
  • Visit the National Police Agency Entry Mountain Permit System.
  • Select Entry Mountain Permit Application.
  • Log in using your Taiwanese ID or ARC number.
  • Enter the group leader's information, travel dates, and search for Lisong Hot Spring.
  • Choose a hiking route map and briefly complete the hiking itinerary.
  • Add all group members to the participant list and submit the application.
  • Once approved, you will receive the permit and participant list by email. Please print the documents and present them at the mountain checkpoint on the day of your visit.
  • Please note: The online permit system is primarily available for Taiwanese citizens and ARC holders. International visitors who are unable to apply online are advised to contact the relevant authorities or join a local guided tour for assistance.


2. Hongye Hot Spring|紅葉溫泉
  • Getting There:Hongye Hot Spring is located in Yanping Township, Taitung County, approximately 40 minutes by car from downtown Taitung.
  • For GPS navigation, search for "Hongye Hongqiao Hot Spring (紅葉紅橋溫泉)".
  • After arriving, locate "Hongye Riverside Access Point (紅葉下切點)" on Google Maps. From there, it is about a 1-minute walk down to the natural hot spring.

Safety Notice Lisong Hot Spring and Hongye Hot Spring are natural riverside hot springs. Please check weather and river conditions before your trip, avoid visiting after heavy rainfall, and wear appropriate hiking shoes. Visitors are responsible for their own safety during the trip.
